Overview

Renowned industrialist and philanthropist Dr Karsan Bhai K Patel, the founder of the Nirma Group of Industries, established the Nirma Education and Research Foundation (NERF) in the year 1994 with a vision to promote higher education and to provide excellent educational facilities to the youth in India. In 1995, Nirma Institute of Technology – affiliated to Gujarat University – was established by the NERF. It was followed by the establishment of Nirma Institute of Management in 1996.

In the year 2003, the Government of Gujarat approved the proposal of the NERF to found the Nirma University, Ahmedabad. Hence, the Nirma University was established under a special Act passed by the Gujarat State Legislative Assembly. The University Grants Commission (UGC) duly recognized the University under Section 2 (f) of the UGC Act.

The NERF is equally committed to school education. It strongly believes in the fact that a strong foundation is a prerequisite for education. With this philosophy, it runs two schools ‘Nirma Vidyavihar’ at Bodakdev, Ahmedabad and at Chharodi, Ahmedabad. Here, it lays emphasis on providing value-based education along with innovative teaching practices.

Admission process

Nirma University accepts CAT scores for admission to its MBA programs. Campus life

Spread across the sprawling lush green 115-acre campus, Nirma University has a host of institutes, departments, and centers, including Institute of Technology, Institute of Management, Institute of Pharmacy, Institute of Science, Institute of Law, Institute of Architecture and Planning, Institute of Commerce, Institute of Design, Faculty of Doctoral Studies and Research, Centre for Continuing Education, and Centre for Entrepreneurship. The buildings have a host of amenities including amphi-theatre classrooms equipped with multi-media and audio-visual equipment, spacious seminar halls and auditoriums with varied capacities, hi-tech advanced laboratories with the latest equipment, and studios, to name a few. The computing facilities at the campus include state-of-the-art computer laboratories, with the latest configuration computers, modern software and high-speed servers. A gigabit network connects every nook and corner of the University. A 3.5 Gbps (3500 Mbps) (w.e.f. 01/07/2024) dedicated optic fiber leased line and Wi-Fi hotspots enable round the clock Internet connectivity on the campus. The university also houses a doctor’s clinic, which is open for all members of the community all through the working hours. The doctor can be contacted over the phone as well in case of any emergency. The university also has an ambulance facility round the clock. A sculpture park adds to the aesthetics of the ambience. Every statue is beautifully carved and tells its own unique story. It is a delight to see these huge structures stand tall on the university lawns. In addition, the University has an art gallery displaying the paintings of the late Nima K Patel. The pace at which the university is growing there is a constant need to upgrade, update and add new infrastructural facilities. Keeping this into account, the university has developed new infrastructure comprising three main buildings. The first building block has classroom cluster and a huge computer center, the second block houses a Convention Centre, and the third building comprises an institute, classroom clusters, Central Library, and space for different offices. The total area covered by these three new blocks is 1,52,337 sq mtr.
